How To Avoid An Accident In Your Rental Car

Traveling by car is the best way to see those out of the way places, while visiting Queensland, without having to take a tour. Super, diesel and unleaded are available at all stations, however LPG is usually only available at stations located in a populated area. The prices of gas varies from time and place, however it will always cost more on the weekends and bank holidays, so it is best to fill up during the week.

When trying to choose what rental company to use you should consider a company that gives unlimited kilometers. Larger companies sometimes offer one-way rentals, pick up your automobile in one town and drop it off when you reach your destination, but you need to be sure of any restrictions. 4WD and camper vans are the most popular rentals. A 4WD allows you to get right into the natural wonders that most travelers miss. However, the insurance on these tend to be high and don not cover any off road damage.

Queensland has a few multi lane highways but most major roads are sealed with two lanes. You don’t have to go too far off the beaten track to get onto dirt roads, its quite common if you want to see the countryside. Kangaroos are a common hazard on Australian roads and if you are traveling at any sort of speed, hitting one can make quite a mess of your car, not to mention the kangaroo so be alert when they are most active - dawn and dusk.

When traveling at night you can be faced with many animal hazards. If a large animal appears in front of your car you should hit the brakes, dim your lights and only swerve if its safe to do so. Many travelers have been killed in accidents caused by swerving to miss animals, it is sometimes its safer for you to hit the animal, even though it can be traumatic.

Along the east coast and in country areas, drunk driving is a major issue. Attempts are being made to address so be prepared to stop for random breath testing station or booze buses somewhere on your travels. If your blood alcohol levels are greater then 0.05% you should also be prepared to pay a large fine and lose of your license. Parking is another costly problem, although it may cost some money to park in the designated areas, it is still less money then being ticketed.

International Travel For Less

The current economy has people thinking that this is not the time to travel to foreign destinations and lands unknown; this could not be further from the truth. Travel has become less expensive in recent months, and so if you have the money, it is a good time to take a trip or plan a holiday.

The prices on hotel accommodations have dropped quite a bit, with many hotels offering discounts and special deals for select times or to get you to stay a little longer. It is not uncommon to find additional discounts on the web for select hotel chains, even those that are at international destination.

Airlines are also another travel compent that reduced prices for customers. Many commercial airlines realized that it is no longer profitable to fly an aircraft that is not full of passengers, therefore they are offering get ticket prices in order to full up each flight that takes off the ground.

Although rental cars are the opposite of the previous two, and they have raised prices a bit, you are still able to find affordable car rentals with a little leg work. Look on the internet through travel sites that can offer you package deals on airfare, accommodations and rentals, as you are sure to find a good deal there. You can also save money by renting from a company that is not located in the airport, as airport rental companies charge greater prices because it is considered a luxury. Other ways to save on a rental include forgoing the rental insurance and being aware of all hidden contract fees such as mileage and gas.

As you can see, now is a great time to travel. Don’t wait until the economy turns around, as this is also when the prices will begin to rise. Plan your trip early and save up the funds needed. This will allow you to take a dream vacation that you may have otherwise thought was impossible.

Getting the Best Deal on a Rental Car

Car rental rates are continuing to increase, despite the recent economic troubles, and a decrease in the number of cars being rented. Most major car rental companies are reducing the number of cars in their fleet, which results in fewer cars to rent, and increased rates for the cars that the rental companies are keeping. When planning a vacation, it is worth the time to look for discount car rental rates, the same way you would research discount hotel and airfare rates.

While it would seem like a better idea for the car rental companies to maintain their existing fleet, and lower rates to attract more customers, this is not the strategy that most companies have adopted. As rates continue to increase, it means that you the consumer must search all possible options to get the best rate possible the next time you are renting.

Most companies charge similar rates, for similar classes of cars. Whether this is being done deliberately or not, you are not likely to see significant differences between the major rental companies. That being said, it is still possible to find deals when renting a car. Here are several tips when looking to rent a car for your next vacation.

1. Coupons and Discounts. Shop around on the internet, in your local newspaper as well as ask your friends. Many times people have car rental coupons for one company or another and usually if you can get a good rate from one company you can convince another company to offer you the same deal as well. Discount cards such as AARP and other membership cards as well as in some cases Visa debit rewards and frequent flyer miles can help get you discounts on your vehicle rentals.

If you are willing to be flexible with the dates for your vacation, you increase your chances of finding a less expensive car rental rate. Since it is easier to find less expensive airfare and hotel rates, it may make more sense to book your trip around a time frame when less expensive car rates are available, and then look for discount airfare and hotel rates.

3. Best Deal. Looking for the best deal means weighing all of your options. This may mean finding out what the rental rate is for a four day rental and comparing it to a seven day rental. Many times taking those extra days will actually save you money. Also, look for companies that offer unlimited mileage as this is a feature that can really save you a bundle.

Being a wise consumer is what saving money is all about, especially when it comes to car rentals. Choose carefully and find a way to save some money on your next rental. It may take some work but it will be4 well worth it in the long run.

Inspect Your Vehicle For Automotive Fluid Leaks

When it comes to auto ownership few problems can be as concerning, frustrating and ultimately expensive as fluid links. It seems like nothing can draw more attention and concern than a puddle underneath your vehicle. The one thing that you can be sure of is that its new and was not there before- otherwise you would have spotted it.

More than one driver has had substantial safety issues as well as very expensive automotive repairs at their local auto dealer simply by ignoring obvious fluids loss under their vehicle , lying on the roadway. The “idiot ” lights on your dashboard may alert you as a driver , but only after the expensive damage has been done.

If you note a green or pink watery type liquid ( as opposed to oil type leaks), that is under your automotive vehicles in puddles , think of antifreeze leaks. Some vehicles , including busses or vehicles run year round in warm climates , where winter freeze up never occurs , may run simply on 100 % water. Regardless a leak of radiator fluid indicates coolant loss. This may result in damaging engine overheating. Engines should not run very hot for too long. In cold Manitoba and Alberta winters , loss or even lower levels of radiator glycol antifreeze coolant will result in a cold car in which the auto interior heater never seems to work , or put out much heat. If you cannot get engine heat how can you defrost your windshield ? Its thus not only a convenience and comfort issue but also one of roadside safety.

Brake fluids are another major safety issue. No brake fluids and you will not be able to stop safely in an emergency . Your braking times and distances will increase greatly. Check your brake fluid canister , that it is filled to a proper and essential level on a regular basis.

A leaky engine oil pan , may do drip , drip drip for ever and not do any damage all in all to your motor. Just watch the middle path of the roadway as you drive. You can spot the accumulated residue from millions of cars dripping oil into the mid point of any roadway or street. Motorcyclists have to cautious of these motor oil stains and their slickness when driving in rainstorms and when the roads are wet. Regardless , have your oil level checked accurately via the dipstick under your engine bonnet on a regular basis , such as when filling up with gasoline.

It is an amazing fact when it comes to company cars. Some of these drivers have nothing but mechanical troubles , downtime and straight misfortune when it comes to their vehicles , repair costs , time off the road for auto vehicle repairs , and even safety concerns when it comes to B.C. and Alberta mountain driving. Other commercial drivers seem to have trouble free vehicle maintenance reports. In most cases experienced Edmonton based auto industry analyst M.U. Labovitch notes it comes down to simple preventative and ongoing vehicle maintenance schedules and routines.

Auto Finance Basics ABC

Autofinace can be very confusing if handled without proper guidance. You may stand the risk of paying unnecessarily high amounts of installments or getting an unfavorable warranty deal.

Remember first and foremost it is you , or your family , who pays the price of poor , sloppy or incomplete negotiation in the auto purchase and sales process. You , as a consumer, have a responsibility to both your family and yourself. It is all similar to the Canadian “taxpayer’s bill of rights”. Only in this case its you in the dock and docket.

Never be rushed when it comes to negotiating your auto finance deal. Haste makes great waste. Even if you need the vehicle to “get to work” or it inconvenient not having regular and reliable transport hold off and stay in neutral. Do not an urgency of making a decision quickly come into your auto purchase decision making process.

In this day of the internet , much information that was held in the automotive trade as “private ” and “confidential ” can now be readily obtained. Most can be obtained for free with good research skills and effort. Other data and information can be obtained for a relatively small fee - be it an full auto report or information on the fairness and reliability of the auto finance company or bank. If the dealership can have access to your credit report for a fee , why shouldn’t be able to find out online the full history and maintenance reports on the vehicle that you are ready to shell out good money and cash for ?

At the end of the day it is not only did “you get a good or great deal ?” It is what the vehicle is going to cost you in total out of your own money and pocketbook.

Step To Follow for Rental Car Accidents

Of course, we are all hoping that you will never need this information. There are a few things to do both before the accident as well as after to make sure that this issue is handled in the best possible way.

The first thing that you need to do is find out exactly what you are insured for prior to renting your vehicle. Most times you will be covered under your personal vehicle insurance or Credit Card Company, you should know what and how much is covered. If you feel that you are not covered to a level that is comfortable, then it is a wise choice to take the additional renters insurance that is offered by the rental company. This insurance can cost you as little as $10.00 a day, but it is worth the investment should an accident occurs.

As soon as the accident occurs, call the police first to file an incident report. You should do this from where ever you are at the time of the accident and try to leave the vehicle in the position it was in when it was hit. Then call the rental car agency and report the accident. Do not admit any liability for the accident to the car rental company and do not offer to pay or settle the incident without the consent of the company themselves.

Next be sure to provide copies of all relevant information to the agency that you rented the vehicle from. This includes repair receipts, police reports and any other documents that you receive in regard to this accident. Also, be willing to keep communication open with them providing them with any additional information that they need to help settle the claim.

If you are relying on your personal insurance policy for insurance, or your credit card company then you need to contact both of these companies as well at the time of the accident as well as any further information or paperwork you receive regarding this matter. Then be sure to follow up with all companies involved often so that you are not surprised to be hit with a bill that they have never paid. It is important since still the ultimate liability lies with you.

SUV Review: The 2009 Ford Edge

Ford has manufactured the 2009 Ford Edge as a premium crossover SUV that is based around the Ford CD3 platform, which it shares with the Mazda6 and is effectively modified from the Lincoln MKX. The Mazda CX-9 crossover, the Mercury Milan, the Lincoln MKZ and the Ford Fusion sedans all share its platform.

Being a crossover car, the Edge tries to bridge the gap between the minivans like the Freestar, and the more truck-based SUVs such as the Ford Explorer. However, The Edge is officially positioned below the Taurus in Ford’s lineup of crossover SUVs, although it is not significantly smaller than the Taurus.

The 2009 Ford Edge is the latest model in the Edge range and that attempts to live up to the demand for a spacious, yet stylish, car. This five-passenger utility vehicle has several interesting features. Ford insists that this is much more than just a car, suggesting that it is a cross between a minivan and a truck.

The 2009 Ford Edge uses a 3. 5 liter V6 engine that churns out over 250 horsepower, as well as a x6 speed automatic transition. Of course, front wheel drive is standard, though all-wheel drive is an optional extra. This model has several impressive safety features, including front/side and front/rear airbags, anti-lock brakes on all four wheels, an ESC, and a sophisticated tire-pressure monitoring system.

The 2006 NAIA Show in January 2006 saw the debut of the Edge series, and production began on the 2007 model in the October of 2006. Due to a brief delay in production the first order was delayed and only just managed to reach dealerships before Christmas 2006. This delay was down to an undisclosed dispute with the supplier.

The 2009 Ford Edge has a fuel economy that is rated at 15 to 16 miles per gallon in the city, and 22 to 24 miles per gallon on the highway. As mentioned above, the Edge is available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive and uses Ford’s front end design with its distinctive three-bar chrome grille. Although the 2007 series was introduced with the three trim levels of SE, SEL, and SEL Plus, the 2009 series has dispensed with the SEL Plus version.

Standard features on all versions of the 2009 Ford Edge include air conditioning, cruise control, driver’s seat lumbar support, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power windows, power door locks, and power mirrors, remote keyless entry and P235/65R17 tires on alloy wheels. Safety equipment on this car includes the standard dual front airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

An Introduction To The 2007 Chevy Tahoe

The 2007 Chevy Tahoe has long been a widely respected and highly successful SUV. Before size SUV from the popular American company, General Motors, it was originally very similar the GMC Yukon that was originally introduced back in 1992. The Chevy Tahoe itself was produced in 1995 under that name and still remains in production.

Largely similar to the GMC Yukon, the Chevy Tahoe still remains in production, having started on the production line back in 1995. Over its history it has enjoyed a great degree of popularity and has also undergone a number of changes and upgrades to the production line.

The next generation of the product line up began in 2000. At this point, the vehicle had undergone very many redesigns and also had received significant updates to the engine and many other aspects of the vehicle. Because within the product line itself remained largely similar to each other however, with just a few aesthetic variations.

The second generation of the car was introduced in 2000, and at this time, the vehicle was largely redesigned. All of the vehicles in the product line received very significant updates and performance upgrades but all the products on the line largely similar to each other with just a few aesthetic variations.

The first hybrid car was introduced in 2007, allowing for electrical power as an environmentally friendly and often practical and cheaper alternative to the traditional way of power in vehicles. Although the starting price was $50, 000, it ended up being increased for the 2009 model by another $1000.

The beginning of the current generation of the product line was Martin 2007 with the introduction of the hybrid version of the Yukon. This also became quite popular in Mexico and it also use the same product name. It was introduced again in the 2008 models.

In 2007, the first hybrid car was also introduced. This allowed for electrical power as an alternative method of power in the car. With a 6 l V8 engine, it also had two electric motors powering a nickel-metal hydride battery. Using an extremely technologically advanced automatic system, which monitor the torque, it could run on both at the same time.

The current Chevy Tahoe enjoys being the only SUV in the world rated for pursuit. This is one of the reasons it is used in law enforcement agencies as it is efficient, reliable and safe. It has long enjoyed a special reputation for these three factors and continues to be produced.

Smartbars Vs Bullbars, A Critical Comparison

I own a jeep. I’ve always owned jeeps. From the old 70s CJ models to the newer, way more comfy (or so my wife tells me) cherokees. I don’t know why I do, but I’ve always loved them.

Recently on an outback excursion I hit a kangaroo. I was only doing about 10km/h so the damage was minimal, but this incident got me thinking about frontal protection. So I called my mates at All Vehicle Accessories in Melbourne to have a chat about bullbars.

During this chat they brought up the topic of smartbars. Before the conversation, I didn’t even know they existed. So I got onto Google to do some research on the products and found a lot of opinion (most of it based on aesthetics and perception rather than utility and fact) but pretty much no factual information. So me and my mates at All Vehicle Accessories dug a little deeper, and this is what we found.

Topic 1. Safety - With frontal protection products, there are 3 general areas of concern regarding safety. These are the ability to protect passengers, the ability to protect pedestrians and the ability to protect your car.

Just to make it perfectly clear when we are comparing performance in this regard, we are only comparing performance at speeds up to and including fatal impact, not exceeding it. We aren’t really interested in the opinions that at 150kms/h, the pedestrian dies no matter what device you are using. Its a ridiculous argument. However we are interested in seeing how bullbars and smartbars protect our vehicle, passengers and pedestrians, at speeds where there is a chance for survival.

The difference in performance of the two products comes about due to the relative rigidity which is a result of their make up. In a nutshell, bullbars are designed to be solid, rigid and inflexible. The immovable object protecting your car. Smartbars are designed to absorb, cushion and decelerate the forces of an impact. There are many independent studies on the two, all showing the same thing. The simple fact is that smartbars work better to protect everyone. Do some research, the facts are clear and available.

To put this point in perspective though, into words you can feel, smartbars are made out of similar materials that they make those big wheelie bins from. Imagine you fell over in the street and smacked your head into a big iron postal box. It would hurt right? Now compare the same fall if your head hit the middle of one of those big wheelie bins. The bin would cushion the impact somewhat and the damage to your forehead would not nearly be so bad. (Or painful for that matter) Thats the way the smartbars work.

If you enjoy your vehicle, performance will always be a topic on your mind. The cost of fuel, tyre wear, suspension wear, handling in extreme weather. They are all issues for regular drivers. One thing that no-one questions, is that smartbars are significantly lighter than bullbars. Do you know what this means? Better fuel efficiency, longer tyre and suspension wear, easier and safer handling. Smartbars by their lighter composition allow your vehicle to perform better. Simple.

And then there is maintenance. One thing I’ve learned to hate about 4WDing over the years is the polishing, buffing and the pure elbow grease required to keep metal parts rust free and shiney. With the smartbar, there are no metal parts. A bucket of soapy water and a sponge is all you need to clean it and get back to planning your next trip.

These are the facts I found when researching frontal protection products for my Jeep. The protection of my family was my #1 consideration, so getting this right was important to me. If you are considering frontal protection products I encourage you to do your own research, try to seperate fact from the immense amount of image based opinion out there, and pick the product that best suits your purpose.

Smartbars vs bullbars, there is no competition in Damian Papworth’s mind.
