The introductory offers are always quite good but once those offers end you will need to get a bit creative to keep receiving good rebates using a gas card. The main point of the gas rebate card is that you can save when buying gas from specific gas stations or retailers.
Many times a gas rebate card will offer savings of between 5-6% as an introductory offer. However for the vast majority of all cards this savings will only apply for the first few months. Then after that period is over the savings will drop to between 2-3%. The terms and conditions are also variable as they are not fixed and they can change on you in an instant. Make sure you read all of the terms and conditions before accepting the card.
Many time gas rebate cards are only good at certain gas stations. To get the full amount in savings you will always need to go to a mobile or Shell, depending on your card. You should also look at the interest rates associated with your gas rebate card, as they tend to be higher. If you plan on carrying a balance then you do it on another card with lower interest.

So altogether that may be about an 8% discount, which can save you about 26 cents per gallon if gas is above $3 a gallon. In the long run gas rebate cards are not as great as they first appear.

Gas rebate cards can be found for specific gas chains or you can use a gas rebate card for any gas station. No matter the gas rebate card or offered deal make sure you read the terms and conditions. Many financial institutions such as Chase, Citibank, Discover and more offer gas rebate cards. American express and Discover are considered to offer the best deals on gas rebate cards. If you are a frequent traveler then Blue Cash by American express is the card for you as it offers %5 off on all gas purchases at any gas station.
The Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards Card will award you 5 reward points for every 1$ spent on gas station purchases. You can save 3 cents per gallon when using the Wal-mart credit card at any Wal-mart or Sam’s clubs. The Shell MasterCard from Citibank has a great introductory rate of 5% rebate of shell gas purchases and 1% rebate on any general purchases but the rebates to have a time limit.

Gas prices may have dropped from the crazy four-dollar-plus per gallon that it was last summer, but it still isn’t cheap. With prices hovering around three dollars per gallon, it still takes a huge bite out of the budget. Here are 6 steps you can take to get more for your money, and keep more money in your wallet - where it belongs!
1. Keep tires properly inflated. Improperly inflated tires are harder to spin and create extra drag. Check your tires frequently - it doesn’t cost anything! Not only will you save on gas, but you’ll be driving safer.
2. Have tires aligned. Poorly aligned tires also create drag, particularly on turns and while going uphill. Have your tires aligned at least every six to nine months.
3. Brakes. Have your brakes checked and aligned, at least every six to nine months. Inefficient, or poorly aligned brakes make braking less efficient and reduce overall mileage.
4. Make sure your engine is tuned. An improperly tuned engine can burn a LOT more gas than necessary. Have dirty or worn spark plugs replaced.
5. Limit idling. When you are idling, you are getting exactly zero miles per gallon. while it takes more gas to start your car than it does to idle, you can actually save gas by shutting off your engine if you are going to be idle more than 30 seconds.
6. Improve your driving habits. Learn to accelerate less, do your errands during off-peak times when there is less traffic, think ahead and combine trips whenever possible. Avoid congestion, and especially stop and go traffic.

A gas rebate card can appear to be a great way to save on gas. This is very appealing, as the price of gas has been increasing. However the actual savings are not what they appear to be and you need to read all of the fine print to completely understand what you can get from gas rebate cards.
However the large rebate tends to only be available for the first few months, generally at about 90 days. For example Chase’s MasterCard has a 6% rebate on all gas purchases but only for the first 90 days and then after this time the rebate drops to around 3%. As with many credit cards the terms and conditions can change drastically. There have been cards in the past that offered rebates on gas but when the card issuer discovered that people were only using that card to purchase gas and not other items they quickly changed the policy.
You will also need to realize that many gas rebate cards only offer rebates at specific gas stations. To receive the full rebate you will have to go to a standalone stations. Also the savings you may be receiving from the rebates may not be savings at all as gas rebate cards tend to have much higher interest rates then traditional credit cards. If you carry a balance on your credit cards then it is advised that you do so on a low interest card and not the gas rebate card.
