The Relatively Short-Lived Ford Probe
Sep 15, 2009 More Saving
The short life of the Ford Probe, which was a model put out by the company for the 1989 model year, was notable for the daring design of the first generation (there were two, in total). Designed to replace the older Ford EXP, it was built on the Mazda G chassis and platform and was a front wheel driver that had actually been intended to eventually replace the iconic Ford Mustang in the company’s lineup.
The Ford Probe was also intended as a kind of fighter against an anticipated rise in oil prices, with the aim of the car’s designers to deliver a vehicle that boasted excellent performance in both 4 and 6 cylinder trim while also helping company average fuel economy goals. It largely delivered on both fronts, though sales upon its introduction in 1988 as a 1989 model never did live up to expectations.
The Probe’s sleek, ultra-modern style - kind of wedge-shaped and swoopy - appealed to many, but also left others a little turned off. It shared most of its mechanicals (including engines) with Mazda’s 626-series of automobiles, and came off Ford’s joint-venture assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, where one line would produce Mazdas and the other, the Ford.
After 8 years of mostly-flat sales (only 32, 000 were sold in its final year of production in 1997), the Probe was dropped from the lineup. This is a shame, as its 1993 redesign was sufficiently robust enough to deliver it Car of the Year awards from a number of different automotive magazines.
As far as performance went, the Probe always managed to deliver, even with a 2. 2 liter four cylinder engine, which put out a decent 110 horses. The turbocharged version of that engine could spool itself up to 148 ponies, which was quite nice, and the V6 offering came in at just 5 horses less than the high-performance turbo 4.
For its time, and taking into account the Ford corporate inability to be fully responsive to changes in the marketplace in a swift manner, the Probe was a quite surprising vehicle from the Blue Oval folks. It came loaded with advanced - for the day - technical features in engines, chassis and other components, and the first generation design was anything but staid and utilitarian in appearance.
The years since the model’s discontinuation have proven the durability of the second generation’s chassis and underpinnings, and there are still a number of outstanding examples of the hot-rod version of the Probe (the GT, which boasted a normally aspirated V6 that put out 164 robust horses), which came kitted out in front-wheel drive and a vigorous performance stance.

SUV Review: The 2009 Ford Edge
Sep 11, 2009 More Saving
Ford has manufactured the 2009 Ford Edge as a premium crossover SUV that is based around the Ford CD3 platform, which it shares with the Mazda6 and is effectively modified from the Lincoln MKX. The Mazda CX-9 crossover, the Mercury Milan, the Lincoln MKZ and the Ford Fusion sedans all share its platform.
Being a crossover car, the Edge tries to bridge the gap between the minivans like the Freestar, and the more truck-based SUVs such as the Ford Explorer. However, The Edge is officially positioned below the Taurus in Ford’s lineup of crossover SUVs, although it is not significantly smaller than the Taurus.
The 2009 Ford Edge is the latest model in the Edge range and that attempts to live up to the demand for a spacious, yet stylish, car. This five-passenger utility vehicle has several interesting features. Ford insists that this is much more than just a car, suggesting that it is a cross between a minivan and a truck.
The 2009 Ford Edge uses a 3. 5 liter V6 engine that churns out over 250 horsepower, as well as a x6 speed automatic transition. Of course, front wheel drive is standard, though all-wheel drive is an optional extra. This model has several impressive safety features, including front/side and front/rear airbags, anti-lock brakes on all four wheels, an ESC, and a sophisticated tire-pressure monitoring system.
The 2006 NAIA Show in January 2006 saw the debut of the Edge series, and production began on the 2007 model in the October of 2006. Due to a brief delay in production the first order was delayed and only just managed to reach dealerships before Christmas 2006. This delay was down to an undisclosed dispute with the supplier.
The 2009 Ford Edge has a fuel economy that is rated at 15 to 16 miles per gallon in the city, and 22 to 24 miles per gallon on the highway. As mentioned above, the Edge is available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive and uses Ford’s front end design with its distinctive three-bar chrome grille. Although the 2007 series was introduced with the three trim levels of SE, SEL, and SEL Plus, the 2009 series has dispensed with the SEL Plus version.
Standard features on all versions of the 2009 Ford Edge include air conditioning, cruise control, driver’s seat lumbar support, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power windows, power door locks, and power mirrors, remote keyless entry and P235/65R17 tires on alloy wheels. Safety equipment on this car includes the standard dual front airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

The Long Life Of The Ford Escort
Sep 9, 2009 More Saving
The long life of the Ford Escort — the model sold in the United States and Canada, for the most part — took on several different shapes, though every one aimed to capture a large segment of the compact car market. Up until 1981, Ford had mostly failed at doing so though its new attempt with what it dubbed a “world car” would seek to attract buyers in North America.
As a model that ran up through the 2003 model year, the compact Escort had a very nice life. The new Focus picked up the load after the little compact was put out to pasture though thousands of them still run on the roads to this day. Originally based of model off the same name sold in Europe, it was redesigned extensively before being put forward for sale to Americans.
The Ford Escort was also the company’s first front-wheel-drive car, and it replaced Ford’s subcompact Pinto, which had been in production since 1971 and had been through several controversies which impacted sales of that model. In the 1980s, the Escort was one of Ford’s most successful models. In fact, it was so well-liked that it was the single best selling car in the United States by its second year and for most of the 1980s.
In total, three generations of the Escort was produced by Ford, with each model and body style being a qualitative improvement over its predecessor. Over the life of the vehicle a number of engines and transmissions were offered, including a little diesel engine of 52 horsepower and a high-performance powerplant the kicked out a healthy 120 horses and could propel the small Escort quite capably.
Over the course of the third, and last, generation (1997-2202), the engineers at Ford had put it all together, creating an admired small car that could put out nice performance using its four-cylinder engines and also show off relatively attractive sheet metal that appealed to a lot of customers.
Throughout its life span, the Escort appeared in a number of different body styles and/or combinations, including a three door hatchback, a five door hatchback/sedan, a station wagon and also a range of sporty looking coupes, which made their appearance in 1998. Ford kept up with the times in periodically freshening up the interiors to keep the vehicle interesting.
Over its life, the Ford Escort played a vital part in keeping the car’s Dearborn-based automaker alive and well. Keeping it in showrooms allowed the company to learn how to manufacture compact vehicles while simultaneously selling a great many of them to many a customer. This had the happy effect of keeping the Blue Oval on the minds of many consumers and for that reason alone, the Escort must be considered a success.

While this line of cars has always been the budget range, it now comes with lots of different features that you typically expect in a more luxury model.
The Ford Fiesta certainly isn’t the cheap and nasty car that it was often considered to be and after having undergone many completely designs, but is now an extremely decent and respectable small car, ideally suited to people who want a small car, new drivers who needed something cheap and efficient to run or anyone else for whom economy is important.
There also cheap to run due to their small size and cheap to insure. Also, due to Ford being a very common company with factories all over the world, parts for the car is a relatively cheap, making them extremely efficient and cheap to run. This is one of the reasons they a popular all over the world and especially with new drivers.
The latest iteration of the model has also included a number of considerable upgrades to safety, including five air bags and even a bonnet which can cushion pedestrians. The manufacturers have completely redesigned this car by integrating features into it that you are typically find a much larger cars.
However, this is no miniature Mondeo and in fact the car has been redesigned itself from the very start. It is a very solid build, made from extremely high tensile steel to be as robust and safe as possible. This is certainly a leap ahead from the tin cans that these cars were often considered to be.
Most surprisingly, the car comes of a whole load of extra features that you are typically consider very luxury. It has a voice activated Bluetooth sound system, and all sorts of other entertainment features built into the vehicle. The Ford Expedition - Very Functional
Sep 7, 2009 More Saving
What can I not say about the Ford Expedition? This is a great vehicle for anyone that has a large family, boat, and trailer or hauls a lot of stuff at once. We have owned a van, truck and car and out of all the vehicles we have owned the Ford Expedition is our favorite even down to the kids. We were in the market looking for a new vehicle and test drove several Ford products but fell in love with the Ford Expedition. We purchased the 2006 model that had approximately 60, 000 miles on it.
The new 2010 Ford Expeditions start at around $35, 000 thousand dollars and can go as high as $54, 000 depending on the features that you would like. Most of the Ford Expeditions already come equipped with AM/FM radio with CD player, air conditioner, power windows, power door locks, tilt steering wheel, cruise, automatic transmission, roof rack and 3rd row seats which seats 9 passengers comfortably.
It is nice to have a family of 7 who can sit comfortably in a car without being cramped up and still have room to seat friends. I love being able to take my Ford Expedition to the store or to the beach and we can pack it down and still have plenty of room to move around.
The Ford Expedition rides smooth, handles curves well and even has a great towing capacity. We have a pontoon boat and have had no problem hooking the trailer up and dragging the pontoon anywhere we want to go.
The gas mileage on the Ford Expedition has been surprisingly well even for its large size. In the economy today I can fill it up on approximately $40. 00 and get up to 17 miles a gallon. The gas tank takes Ethanol gas or unleaded.
All Ford Expeditions comes with 4 doors so that you have easy access to climbing in and out. The Ford Expedition also has a sporty look because with all the features they also come with running boards which make climbing into the Ford Expedition easy.
I would have to highly recommend the Ford Expedition to anyone looking for a great sport utility vehicle. The only feature that I don’t like is that the gas tank is a little smaller and we live far out into the country so we find ourselves filling up a little more often that I would like. The Ford Expedition is well worth the price.

The Redesigned Newly Improved 2010 Mustang
Aug 26, 2009 More Saving
The 2010 Mustang while incorporating many of the basic mechanical components of its predecessor, with the addition of higher-spec components on the base models, the sum of all the parts equals a sporty car refined and cost efficient, while still visually attractive and fast, especially around corners.
With a totally redesigned body, a hood bulge coming stock on all models, and relocated equipment such as the antenna and exhaust system. The overall road noise is reduced, and the engine sounds from the cockpit are greatly improved.
The interior received its share of attention as well. The addition of aluminum trim is one that the designers at Ford are really proud of. Shiny newly designed instruments and My Color LED lighting with greater sound proofing make for a remarkably less rental car feel.
While the same base engines are used, the v8 receives a cold air intake from bullit, resulting in 315 hp and a. 3 second improvement in the zero to sixty times. If you want even more power, adding premium fuel gains an amazing 10ft lb of torque from 1 to 4 thousand rpm.
The 2010 mustang retains the suspension systems from previous years, however, they are upgraded one level from previous years. This upgrade begins with the base model of the 2010 mustang and proceeds all the way up the list. Add to this the stock front undercover and you receive increased handling and exceptionally improved cornering.
The new mustang is improved in every way from the one it replaces. It not only has more visual appeal, but it out performs in every aspect its predecessors. But the really amazing aspects come in the form of the optional parts.
The track pack gets suspension from the 500 GT and a 3. 73 differential. It also receives the carbon plate diff from the GT 500. Along with front strut braces, nineteen inch optional wheels and performance summer tires, this package will get your motor revving.
Repositioned exhaust results in much better engine sound inside. The sport mode for the stability control convert the bumpy corners, which were the Achilles heel of the predecessors, into the strong point of the new redesigned 2010 mustang. The sport mode allows traction to be turned off, and reactivated after allowing between seven and nine degrees of slide. Why not slide on into your local Ford dealer and check out the amazingly rejuvenated 2010 mustang for yourself. Click onto the ford website and build your own mustang.
