Oct 11, 2009 More Saving
A person who wishes to buy a used motorcycle has a number of different option open to them today. They can either buy it from someone privately who has advertised in a newspaper or magazine. They could go to their local motorcycle dealer who will often have a large number available as many people will trade in their current bikes for a much newer model. Whilst the other option that is open to them is to buy it through an online auction site and in this article we will take a look at how to buy used motorcycles on the eBay auction site.
In fact in recent months eBay has seen an increase in the number of used motorcycles being placed up for sale, simply because many owners are coming realize that they will actually get a much better price for their machine than if they sell it locally only. Sometimes people are willing to travel hundreds of miles simply because they have found the bike that they have been looking for.
However, if you are considering buying a used motorcycle from an auction site like eBay in this article we take a look at certain factors that need to be taken into consideration by you.
Tip 1 - It is important that you read through the description that the seller has provided thoroughly. It is the description, which provides the seller with his main opportunity for telling potential buyers everything that they need to know about the motorcycle that is for sale. If whilst reading through the description you find you have a question, which cannot be answered by this then, contact the seller immediately.
Tip 2 - Although the seller may have posted a number of photographs of the bike in question for sale on their listing, it is advisable to try and ask them to send additional ones through. If you want to make sure the bike is in the condition that they are stating in their description then get them to provide close up shots of the tires, engine etc. Also, arrange for them if they can to send you a copy of documentation through that proves their ownership of the motorcycle. Also, ask about the bikes service history and who carried out the servicing.
Tip 3- It is vitally important that you read through any feedback that has been posted against the seller and see what kind of rating they have achieved. Doing this not only will you be able to quickly see whether they have sold used motorcycles on an auction site before but it makes you feel a little more secure if they have built up a good set of feedbacks.
Tip 4 - If at any stage you find you are having difficulty making contact with the seller then do not place a bid until you have made contact with them. However, today eBay now have a system in place where if a person wishes to they can actually retract any bids they have made on an item if they are unable to contact the seller. This then puts the responsibility squarely on to the seller’s shoulders to ensure that they are available.
Therefore keeping the above points in mind will help you when it comes to buying used motorcycles on eBay. Not only will it save you time and money but also a lot of stress and heartache as well.

Why The Harley 883?
Oct 1, 2009 More Saving
Although Harley Davidson has been making Sportster motorcycles since 1957, the Harley 883 version was not actually introduced to the market until 1986. Today if you are looking for a Harley Davidson that is not going to break the bank then definitely the 883 may be the Harley for you.
As well as the 4 types of 883 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycles available, there are also 3 types which have a 1200 engine in them and then there is the XL50. This bike came into production this year and was designed to celebrate the 50 years of Harley Davidson producing the Sportster.
Certainly the 883 Sportster is one of the most well recognized of all the custom motorcycles that people can purchase around the world today and below we take a look at the 4 models that Harley Davidson have to offer.
1. XL Sportster 833 - which is the least expensive of all these models available and will cost between $6,595 and $7,990. 2. XL Sportster 833 Low - this bike although is slightly more expensive than the original version will only cost you between $6,995 and $8,390. 3. XL Sportster 883 Custom - another really great looking version of this model and will only cost between $7,795 and $9,555. 4. XL Sportster 883R - This is the final version of this particular model of Harley Davidson motorcycle now available and will cost you anything from $7,795 and up to as much as $9,090.
However as well as Harley Davidson bringing out a number of different 883 models they have also spent time improving the way it feels when you ride it. Along with an enlarged rear axle which has improved these bikes stability, this motorcycle company has made improvements to the frame. Now all the engines are mounted on to rubber rather than directly on to the frame and this has helped to reduce the amount of vibration that the engine causes.
As well as the changes made to the 883 Harley mentioned above Harley Davidson have made several notable changes not just to these models but all of their motorcycles. Gone is the chain drive system for spinning the rear wheel and has been replaced with a belt drive system. Also they have now put a helical cut gear transmission unit in all their bikes, which results in less gear whine noises being made by them. Whilst the other change to be made and which occurred this year is that the engines are now fuel injected rather than being carburetted.
For those who are looking for one of these iconic motorcycles which won’t end up costing them a small fortune this may be the ideal bike for them. As with all Harley Davidson’s the 883 models provide you with the same ride quality and prestige that the more expensive models offer. So why shouldn’t they seriously consider getting themselves one of these.
Therefore why not spend sometime surfing the net and see what more you can learn about the Harley 883 one of the most iconic motorcycles the world has ever known. Soon you can start to feel just like Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda felt in Easy Rider.

The Deal With Custom Motorcycle Number Plates
Jul 19, 2009 More Saving
Fitting a custom rear motorcycle number plate to your pride and joy is a popular way to add a little individuality to your two wheeled vehicle for a small amount of cash.
It doesn’t matter if you are building a bike for use on the public highways or you’re trying to create a show winning vehicle you’ll want to get yourself a number plate that enhances the style of your bike.
If you live in the UK you should quite easily be able to find someone capable of making up bike plates for you but these days with changes in the law it is harder than ever to find a machinist who will make you up a plate which isn’t road legal.
It is still possible to find companies online who will sell you a custom plate but you’ll need to finish the job yourself as they will only send you a number plate kit. They provide a blank number plate and a transfer which you have to apply yourself, not a tough job but the end product is never as good.
The reason quality custom plates are now harder to find is due to changes in the law which make it illegal to supply bike number plates which don’t match up to the DVLA’s definition.
For UK companies who sell plates this means the possibility of prosecution under the law if the police find an illegal plate on the road which they produced. Legally produced plates are nice and easy to read in comparison to many custom numbers so its easy to understand how this situation has developed but that doesn’t stop us wanting our own style on the back of our bikes.
If you still want to get a custom plate but don’t fancy making it yourself at home then you need to find a plate maker who doesn’t mind taking the risks with the law, if you’re lucky you’ll have some biker friends who can point you in the right direction. Just remember that if you get caught with your dodgy plates you could face a slap on the wrist if you are lucky or a fine and penalty points if you are not.
